Barbara Butcher, MPH, was Chief of Staff and Director of the Forensic Sciences Training Program at the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Her memoir, What the Dead Know: Learning About Life as a New York City Death Investigator, draws on more than two decades in the field, during which she investigated over 5,500 death scenes. Called “remarkably candid and sensitive” by The Wall Street Journal, the book chronicles some of her most compelling cases, including her role identifying remains after 9/11. She’s also featured on Netflix’s Homicide: New York and hosts Oxygen’s The Death Investigator with Barbara Butcher.
