Desire can be liberating, dangerous, exhilarating, and destructive—and the pursuit of it can expose the complicated power dynamics beneath our most intimate relationships. In Emma Copley Eisenberg’s Fat Swim, characters confront the ways bodies are watched, judged, desired, and remembered, finding connection in a world that often asks them to see themselves through the eyes of another. In T Clark’s All This Want (and I Can’t Get None), young Black girls, women, and nonbinary characters navigate the volatile space between adolescence and adulthood, where sex, desire, intimacy, and power eventually collide. And in T Kira Madden’s Whidbey, a woman fleeing the man who abused her as a child becomes entangled in a mystery involving revenge, violence, and competing versions of the truth. These three writers explore what our desires reveal about us, and what can happen when that desire collides with power. Moderated by Joseph Earl Thomas (Leviathan Beach).
