Dr. Robert J. Woodbine attended Harvard University in the early 1970s, serving as Co-Director of the Harvard-Radcliffe Afro-American Cultural Center. A member of Sonia Sanchez’s year-long Black Writers Workshop, he was first published in her anthology, 360 Degrees of Blackness Coming At You. Dr. Woodbine’s newest work, Canela Con Miel y Clavos, is a profound hybrid, presenting the complexities of growing up as a Black male of Caribbean and Hispanic heritage in Harlem during the 1960s. This collection expresses Dr. Woodbine’s poignant memories, offering insight into the caustic effects of racism and hope amidst the universal power of spiritual transcendence.
