Robert Gottlieb has been the Editor-in-Chief of Simon and Schuster, Alfred A. Knopf and the New Yorker. At Simon and Schuster he edited such books as Catch-22True Grit, Chaim Potok’s The Chosen, Jessica Mitford’s The American Way of Death, Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook, etc. At Knopf he edited countless books by such writers as Toni Morrison, John le Carré, John Cheever, Michael Crichton, Robert A. Caro, Barbara Tuchman, Nora Ephron; autobiographies by Bill Clinton, Katharine Graham, Lauren Bacall, Liv Ullman; and dance books by Fonteyn, Baryshnikov, Makarova, Paul Taylor, and Lincoln Kirstein.  He has been the dance critic for the New York Observer since 1999 and has written numerous books including a memoir, Avid Reader.
