Phillip Lopate has written extensively on essays and cinema. His film writings have been gathered in TOTALLY TENDERLY TRAGICALLY (Anchor) and the forthcoming MY AFFFAIR WITH ART HOUSE CINEMA (Columbia University Press). He recently published a three-volume anthology of the American essay: THE GLORIOUS AMERICAN ESSSAY, THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE AMERICAN ESSAY and CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ESSAYS. He is a professor at Columbia University and lives in Brooklyn.
