Neal Thompson is the author of six nonfiction books, including The First Kennedys, Driving with the Devil, and the memoir Kickflip Boys. His books have made “best of” lists by NPR, The Wall Street Journal, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble, and Neal has appeared on NPR, PBS, The Daily Show, CNN, The History Channel, and ESPN. A former newspaper reporter, he has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Outside, Esquire, Men’s Health, and others. An avid skier, swimmer, hiker, traveler, he has been publisher of Orion magazine since early 2025 and now lives in New York’s Hudson Valley.
