Martha Hickson is an award-winning school librarian and nationally recognized advocate for intellectual freedom. As the former librarian at North Hunterdon High School in New Jersey, she has successfully defended students’ right to read through multiple book challenges and has become a leading voice against censorship. Hickson received the 2022 Lemony Snicket Prize for Noble Librarians Faced with Adversity, the 2023 New Jersey Library Association Librarian of the Year Award, and the 2020 AASL Intellectual Freedom Award. Her advocacy is featured in the documentary The Librarians.
