Laura Shapiro is a culinary historian who has written widely on women and cooking.She started out in Boston, writing about the women’s movement for the alternative press, then moved to Newsweek where she covered a range of topics including food. She finally quit in order to write about whatever she wanted, which turned out to be women’s lives in the kitchen and at the table. Her books include Perfection Salad, Something from the Oven: Reinventing Dinner in 1950s America, Julia Child, and most recently What She Ate: Six Remarkable Women and the Food that Tells Their Stories.
