John Yau is an award-winning poet and art critic who has been publishing art criticism since 1978. His recent books of poetry include Diary of Small Discontents: New & Selected Poems 1974-2024 (2025) and Tell It Slant (2023). Recent books of essays and monographs include Eric Aho (2026), Please Wait by the Coatroom: Reconsidering Race and Identity in American Art (2023), and Joe Brainard: The Art of the Personal (2022). Yau’s honors and awards include the Jackson Poetry Prize, Rabkin Prize for Arts Writing, and an American Book Award.
