Haleh Liza Gafori is a translator, performance artist, writer, and educator of Iranian descent born in NYC. Her translations of poetry by the Persian sage Rumi have been published in two volumes, Gold (2022) and Water (2025) by NYRB. She presents at institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Stanford University, the Academy of American Poets, and Sarah Lawrence College, and was a 2026 and 2024 MacDowell fellow. Her work has been published by Columbia University Press, Harvard Review, Paris Review, Lit Hub, and elsewhere, and her translations have been incorporated in university curricula across the country. She teaches in the MFA creative writing program at St Joseph’s University.
