David Varno is the fiction reviews editor at Publishers Weekly and former president of the National Book Critics Circle, where he continues to serve on the board. His writing has appeared in publications such as Alta, BOMB, the Brooklyn Rail, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Literary Review, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Newsday, Tin House, and Words Without Borders, where he previously served as dispatches editor. After spending almost two decades in Brooklyn, he lives in Hudson, N.Y.
