Aya de León is a novelist and the 2024-25 Berkeley Poet Laureate. She teaches creative writing in the African American Studies Department at UC Berkeley. She is currently the principal playwright for the Fashion vs Fascism project. She organizes with the Movement for Black Lives and the Working Families Party, and she is the founder of BAAAD: Black Authors Against AI and Data centers, campaigning for Black authors in lawsuits against AI to pledge 1% of any monies they receive to the fight against AI and data center harm to Black communities. Her latest book is the YA novel Undisclosed.
