Alejandro Varela is based in New York. His work has appeared in The Point Magazine, Boston Review, and Harper’s Magazine, among other publications. He is an editor-at-large of Apogee Journal. His graduate studies were in public health. His debut novel, The Town of Babylon (2022), was published by Astra House. It was a finalist for the National Book Award and was longlisted for the PEN America Open Book Award and the Aspen Literary Prize. His short story collection, The People Who Report More Stress (Astra), was published this year.
