Adrian Matejka is the author of seven books including The Big Smoke (Penguin, 2013), which was awarded the 2014 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. His first graphic novel Last On His Feet: Jack Johnson and the Battle of the Century (Liveright, 2023) was selected by the New York Public Library was a finalist for the 2024 Eisner Award. His newest book, Be Easy: New & Selected Poems (Liveright) was published in May 2026. He lives in Chicago and is editor-in-chief of Poetry magazine.
